The Blue Devils song written by Artia was shot in the historic Odd Fellow Hall in the Delano discrict of Wichita, Kansas. The narrative scenes were shot by filmmaker Erik Martin in Colorado. Atria shipped the Blue Devils mask to him to shoot with the actors and sent the footage back to me to incorporate into the playthrough parts of the video. It was a fun collaboration to work with someone across state borders.
The playthrough was shot mostly on Steadicam while some jib / crane shots were introduced. The location allowed for plenty of natural light but additional lighting was still needed so I threw up a couple of led cob lights to fill in the shadows a bit. The abundance of space allowed me to orbit the Steadicam quite easily.
In the edit you might notice some dynamic boom and push shots. The jib used on set was locked down on a tripod. I found that while using the jib vertical boom shots, zooming in and out in post helped create a technocrane type of effect that would otherwise be a typical jib shot.
Special shout to Matthew Atkins who did an amazing job assisting on set.
